This photo is a clean section of carpet  next to a section that has not been cleaned. The excessive soiling is due to use of over the counter spot cleaning agent that leave a residue on the fibers to attract more soil.

These are before and after photos of a commercial low level looped nylon carpet that  had been neglected in a government office. Excessive soap residue build-up from spot cleaners never rinsed out. The white spot is from someone using a spot cleanercontained a bleaching agent. Nylon has dye sites, you can stain it

This client wanted the fringe removed or hidden on her Pakistan rug. We stitched the fringe to the back of the rug by hand, hiding the fringe. You do not want anyone to cut the fringe off your rug as this is the length wise foundation.

        Color Repair 07/28/2011

I went to a new client's home today to repair areas in their carpet that have lost color. This happens on nylon or wool fiber, which have dye sites. The homeowner used a spot cleaner she bought at the store that she saw advertised on TV. Many of these spot cleaners have a bleaching agent in them which will remove the stain but it also removes the original color of the carpet fibers. This is repaired by neutralizing the bleach and blending the colors back into the fibers until we have a match. This dyes are the same that are used in the carpet mills to color the carpet fibers, once we have finished the dyeing process- it is permanent.
The use of spot cleaners will cause many problems in your carpet or upholstery textiles. I do not recommend the use of spot cleaners as the homeowner has no way to throughly remove this chemicals from their textiles. Cold tap water will remove 95% of the spills and deposits in the home without leave a chemical in the textile to continue to react.
